COLWYN BAY have completed an agreement with Tranmere Rovers to take their highly rated Welsh youth international Ashley Taylor on a month’s loan from Monday.
The 6ft 3ins 18-year-old central midfielder has just been given his first professional contract by the Coca Cola Division One Club, who have high hopes for him in the future.
He scored for Tranmere’s youth team against Wigan in the Lancashire Youth Cup on Monday and earlier in the season scored five times in six games.
He would have been in the Seagulls squad for Saturday’s important home match against Mossley (3pm kick off), but has to serve a one match suspension after getting two yellow cards in last week’s FA Youth Cup fourth round at Cardiff City, where Tranmere went out on penalties. As a result, his loan deal will now start from Monday.
Meanwhile, the Bay were yesterday awaiting to hear if Rhyl are to cancel the agreed loan deal involving full-back Mark Connolly.
The loan was finalised late last week and free-kick specialist Connolly was due to be in the Bay squad for Saturday, but Rhyl suffered a couple of key injuries in their 3-1 win at Haverfordwest last weekend. The club management were meeting yesterday to decide whether to recall the defender ahead of their Welsh Cup tie at his former club Bangor City this weekend.
Without a game for two weeks, after Monday‘ss friendly against Ruthin was washed out by the weather, Colwyn Bay take on a Mossley side who are just one point ahead them in the Unibond Division One table.
The Seel Park side have gone three games without a win and have won only four of their last 12 league games, but manager Chris Willcock has recently brought in striker Ben Richardson from Stalybridge Celtic and defender Chris Middleton from Ashton United to strengthen his squad.
There are seats available on the supporters coach going to the away game at league leaders FC Halifax Saturday, February 28. The cost is £10 or £6 for OAPs and under 16s who must be accompanied by an adult.
To book (£5 deposit required) call Neil Brampton on 07818 426 793 or email raisetheroof@tiscali.co.uk. or enquire at the gate at Saturday’s home game against Mossley.
Details of pick up times can be seen on the club’s website www.colwynbayfc.co.uk
