Football: Colwyn Bay FC line up loan deal

COLWYN BAY manager Neil Young is optimistic he will complete the signing of a player on loan from a Coca Cola League club next week.

The squad has been hit by another injury blow with recent signing Tom Spearritt damaging ankle ligaments in last Saturday’s 2-1 win over Chorley and is likely to be out of action for a month.

The club are also taking full-back Mark Connolly on loan from Welsh Premier leaders Rhyl.

With the weather washing out Tuesday’s proposed friendly with Prestatyn and with no game this weekend, the Bay are trying to arrange a friendly with Wrexham for next Tuesday.

Spearritt had done well on his home debut at right back last Saturday, scoring the opening goal from Steve Aspinall’s cross and posing a threat at set pieces.

But he was injured in a tackle just before half-time.

The Seagulls had to reorganise and then had to battle against horrendous weather conditions as a gale force wind and driving rain, which swept in during the interval, blasted into their faces throughout the second half .

The players said afterwards they could hardly see and it was great credit to them that they held out for a win.

Chorley equalised within three minutes of the restart, but then Rob Hopley got past the last defender to put the Bay back in front from their only shot on goal in the second half.

Keeper Chris Sanna made a couple of tremendous saves to keep the lead intact.
