Football: Colwyn Bay FC goal ace signs new deal

Rob Hopley

ROB HOPLEY leads the Colwyn Bay attack against Chorley on Saturday (January 17), having just signed an extension to his contract that will keep him at Llanelain Road until the end of the 2009/10 season.

Manager Neil Young, who himself signed a new three-and-a-half year deal  earlier in the week, commented: "This is a big plus for us. I have been keen for Rob to commit himself to next season, which I hope will be a big one for the club, and I am very happy that he has agreed.

"Tim Brandreth has also told me has no intention of going anywhere, after Prestatyn Town put in seven days for him this week, and it shows the spirit in the camp at the moment."

Hopley, who has scored 14 goals this season, said: "After sitting down with the manager and Gary (Jones) and hearing their plans for the club, I wanted to stay and be a part of it."

Tom Spearritt is expected to make his home debut for the Bay against Chorley, and although Dean Canning is suspended, Robbie Williams is included in the squad for the first time since picking up an injury in pre-season.

A report of the game will be on Tim Channon's blog click here  on Saturday evening.
