Football: Llandudno Junction FC’s first away win for over a year

TWO late goals from set pieces following a discussion at half-time, saw LLANDUDNO JUNCTION claim their first away win for over a year in their derby clash at CONWY UNITED last Saturday.

"We talked at half-time about how we had let ourselves down at set pieces and looked to address one or two things and that certainly paid off in the end," said delighted manager Shane Cartwright.

"I thought we dominated the second half of what was a very entertaining game and we are delighted with the win – and to have given ourselves a chance to do the double over Conwy next Saturday."

Conwy led at half-time with a 25 yard strike from Darren Evans following a poor clearance kick by Junction keeper Liam Ewing, although Junction's Aaron Spencer had a goal ruled out for offside and missed out on a one-on-one with the keeper.

The game was then turned around by those two goals in the last 15 minutes.

Matty Hughes scored from a corner with only his second touch after coming on as a substitute and five minutes later Dan Williams floated in a free kick for Nathan Watson to score the winner with a fine header for his fifth goal of the season.

That was a disappointing third successive defeat for Conwy boss Eifion Hughes, who has been named Manager of the Month for November with five successive league and cup wins.

GLAN CONWY came from 2-0 down to rescue their unbeaten home record with 2-2 draw against LLANRWST UNITED at Cae Ffwt after a double substitution by manager Paul Moroney.

An early goal from Jamie Turner put Llanrwst in front at half-time and then Aaron Jones added a second five minutes into the second half with Aaron Peel, on his return to the Glan Conwy side, making a couple of fine saves to prevent Llanrwst increasing their lead.

But the home side started to dominate after bringing on Sam Sinkinson and Gavin Roberts from the bench and switching the team around.

Joe Williams started to press Llanrwst back with his runs down the flank and after Chris Beardmore pulled a goal back from a corner, Ashley Smith played in Andy Leater to score the equaliser six minutes from the end.

Llanrwst then had to survive fierce late pressure to take home a point.

The two sides meet in the return game at Gwydir Park on Saturday.
