Football: Llandudndo FC chance to make progress

LLANDUDNO will move to within three points of third-placed Ruthin Town, who they play the following week, if they can record a home victory over Glantraeth this Saturday.

In a reduced league programme due to the Welsh Cup, it's a chance for the Maesdu Park side to make ground and they should have Craig Hogg back in defence after work commitments forced him to miss last weekend's 2-0 home win over Llandyrnog United.

The most pleasing thing to come out of that game, apart from the result, were the performance of second half substitutes Lee Craven and Welsh Under-18 schools and colleges international Aaron Pritchard.

Signed from Conwy United just before the transfer deadline, this was Pritchard's first team debut for Llandudno and he did well.

The gale force wind and rain made it a scrappy game against Llandyrnog with neither side able to deal with the conditions in the first half, but Llandudno were much better in the second half and they took an early lead through Gaz Evans who made a late run to get on the end of a cross from Lee Thomas.

With Craven and Pritchard doing well when they came on, Llandudno created numerous chances which they were unable to convert into goals, but eventually secured the three points when Jason Sadler was brought down as he tried to take the ball round the keeper and scored his eighth goal of the season from the spot.
