Rugby: Colwyn Bay v Laugharne preview

COLWYN Bay will go into this Saturday’s Swalec Cup home clash with National League Division Three West club Laugharne on the back of a 19-0 loss at Denbigh at the weekend.

An error-strewn performance saw Bay trail 12-0 at the break before the hosts added a second converted try following the turnaround.

Meanwhile Colwyn Bay 2nds were 29-5 home losers to a strengthened Abergele 2nds team in the first leg of the new Clwyd Cup on Saturday.

Scrum-half Andy Williams-Owen burrowed through to get the Bay’s only try in the second half.

Colwyn’s inexperienced side were able to hold their own in the early exchanges before the better drilled Gele side exerted a dominance in the tight they were able to maintain for most of the match, winning lineout ball at will and securing most of the possession at the set scrum.

Colwyn Bay Mermaids joined forces with Sandbach to defeat Caldy 31-5.

In the first half captain Anna Parkin and utility forward Sarah Johnston scored tries, both converted by Jane Owen.

After the break three more tries were added, Emma Beaumont among the scorers, Owen improving.
