“WE’RE not playing well and we need to turn the ship around fast.”
The words of Llandudno manager Grant Montgomery after a disappointing Welsh Cup defeat at Talwrn Road at the weekend.
On the back of a poor start to the Cymru Alliance campaign, the Seasiders are now out of Wales’ premier knockout competition too and Montgomery is promising changes ahead of this Saturday’s League Cup tussle at Mynydd Isa.
“It’s just not happening for us,” said the Tudno boss.
“We had a pretty good pre-season but performances since have been average. Quality signings came in during the summer, we’ve tried playing different formations, but nothing is paying dividends.
“We need to turn the ship around fast. Our rivals have gathered momentum and we’ve been static.”
Next up is a visit to Mynydd Isa, who have made a decent start to their campaign and will prove a tough nut to crack.
“It’s good in that it gives us a break from the league, but we’ve got to be looking at changes,” added Montgomery.
Llandudno trailed to an Ywain Gwynedd goal at Llangefni, but equalised just before half time through a Craig Hogg penalty only for a defensive lapse to allow the Anglesey side to restore their lead moments from the break via Darren Thomas.
The visitors upped the tempo during the first 15 minutes of the second half as they pushed for a second equaliser but Llangefni were comfortable at the back.
The islanders sealed the win when Kevin Roberts pounced on a mistake by keeper Sean Pearson to sweep in the killer third goal.
“We’ve no complaints about the result; Llangefni deserved to win, but it was a disappointing performance, especially as we’d stressed to the players the importance of the Welsh Cup,” said Montgomery.
