Football: Wayne Corden is Colwyn Bay FC new signing

COLWYN BAY have pulled off major new signing in time for Saturday’s home game against FA Cup conquerors Bamber Bridge.

He is Wayne Corden, who has made over 360 Football League appearance with Mansfield Town, Scunthorpe, Port Vale and most recently Leyton Orient, who released him in June after he made over 30 first team appearances (10 as substitute) last season in Coca Cola League 1.

The 32-year-old winger has just been on trial with Oxford United and Kidderminster.

"He gives us the bit of experience we need at the moment and can play anywhere in midfield," said manager Steve Pope

"I've know him since we went to college together as YTS lads and we are very lucky to get him. He’s just been on trial at Kidderminster and their manager phoned me to say he was available if we were interested.

"He’ll train with the lads on Thursday, but I won’t make my mind up about the team until after then. There are certainly places up for grabs after last Saturday."

The Seagulls should be anxious to make amends for that costly 4-3 FA Cup defeat at Bamber Bridge.

And Steve Pope admitted he got his selection wrong by playing Steve Aspinall out of position in the back four in the first half.

"I hold my hands up and apologise because I got the team selection wrong," he said this week.

"We had played a similar formation at Durham and kept a clean sheet after losing our keeper, but it just didn't work on Saturday.

"We changed things at half-time and should have got at least a replay. We got punished in the end for individual errors and the players need to hold their hands up to the mistakes they made as well as me."

Bamber Bridge showed in the second half that they are vulnerable at the back when put under pressure.

But the Bay were left with a lot to do after their poor first half display saw them 2-0 down at half-time.

They looked to have rescued the tie as they came from 3-1 down to level the scores at 3-3 in the second half, only to throw it away by conceding a fourth goal in the last 10 minutes.
