Cricket: Llandudno 3rds head to the summit

LLANDUDNO thirds took top spot in North Wales Cricket League Division Five with a comprehensive 130-run win over Menai Bridge 3rds at The Oval on Sunday.

Captain Joe Lambe won the toss and batted on a good wicket in a reduced 30-over game due to rain.

There was a perfect start with a 155 stand for the first wicket between youngster Alex Owen with an attractive 90 and Lambe (71 not out) that helped the home side to 202-2.

Owen was in brilliant form and made batting look easy, George Thomas also posting 18 and youngster John Stokes finishing 12 not out.

In reply Menai could only manage 72 all out, veteran Neil Gallagher 3-8, youngster Steve Cheung 2-8 and Thomas 2-10 in a 10-0 win. The home side also took some good catches in the field.

This Sunday Llandudno thirds host their neighbours Mochdre thirds at The Oval.

Paul Humphreys made 57 for Mochdre thirds against Halkyn seconds, but the team were all out for 92 and the Flintshire outfit scraped home on 96-7 in a low-scoring Division Five encounter, Matthew Humphreys 2-20, Daniel Parry 2-21 and Martin Roberts 2-24.
