LLANDUDNO will travel to Llanrwst this Saturday with a 31-point lead at the North Wales Cricket League Premier Division summit following their crushing weekend victory over Chirk at The Oval.
The champions won the toss and chose to bat first, amassing a formidable 267-3 off 41 overs.
Steve Smith (36) and skipper Duncan Midgley (26) put on 57 for the first wicket, then in-form Sam Rimmington added 52, but it was Aled Williams who was the star man, the ex-captain hitting an unbeaten 102 off 92 balls and sharing in a fourth wicket stand of 101 with Gordon Kerr (36 no).
Ten-man Chirk were always up against it and found themselves flailing at 24-5, Jack Rimmington taking two wickets in his third over and Kerr ripping out three more.
A spirited 52 from Gareth Partridge eventually helped the visitors to 78 all out, Kerr 3-16, Sam Rimmington 2-4, Jack Rimmington 2-7 and Luke Regan 2-18, earining the seasiders a 30-1 triumph.
MOCHDRE’S normally prolific batting line-up failed as Menai Bridge ran out resounding 114-run (28-4) winners at Black Marsh Fields.
After winning the toss Menai took first knock while Mochdre had to take the field with 10 men as veteran all-rounder Gareth Davies arrived late due to attending a family medical emergency and was unable to bowl until the 32nd over.
By that time the score had raced to 161-2 but the introduction of Davies into the attack saw the dismissal of Glamorgan seconds batsman Dion Holden for 106 and wickets then fell regularly as the Bridge struggled after their good start to reach 220-9 from 50 overs.
Russ Boswell with 3-63 was the main wicket taker after Davies, who finished with 4-17 from nine overs, and at tea the game looked evenly balanced.
Mochdre looked to be well set at 73-2 but the dismissal of opener Will Evans for 59 saw a dramatic and inexplicable collapse as the hosts were bowled out for just 106 in 32 overs with only one other player reaching double figures.
