COLWYN Bay will enter this Saturday’s home Liverpool Competition Premier League clash with Northern in high spirits after their weekend thrashing of Wallasey.
Winning the toss and choosing to bat Bay cracked 233-8 declared off 55 overs, openers Caerwyn Williams (37) and Zac Gidlow (28) putting on 76 before handing over to Sion Morris (42), Gareth Cross (30) and Springbok pro William Hantam added a quickfire 36.
The Wirralians looked up for the challenge as their openers romped to 36 without loss but then they collapsed like a pack of cards to finish 85 all out in just 34.4 overs.
Left arm spinner Paul Jenkins notched a brilliant 4-15 off 11.4 overs, Ryan Holtby 3-30 and Hantam 2-26 to wrap up a maximum 25-3 triumph.
"We played outstanding cricket in every phase of the game and I couldn’t be more delighted," said Bay skipper Graeme Jones. "This is a tough ground to go to and we coasted it."
A fine unbeaten 90 from Chris Rowley helped Colwyn Bay seconds to a four-wicket (20-8) win over their counterparts from Southport.
Batting first, Southport amassed 232-7, young Arthur Jones again bowling well taking 4-65.
Colwyn Bay won with just three balls to spare as Rowley, assisted by Jones (46), guided them home in a calm and assured manner.
On Saturday the seconds travel to third-placed Maghull in a crucial match.
A maiden century by Tom Clarke at Leigh thirds was not enough to secure victory as Colwyn Bay thirds lost by five wickets in what was a close encounter.
Clarke opened for the Bay and batted through to the declaration, with him hitting 21 fours in his unbeaten 110.
He was supported by Arthur Jones (14), Shreyas Srivatsa (23) and Heinrich Venzke (20), the innings closing on 202-7.
Leigh opener Richard Dempster starred with an unbeaten 87 as they reached their target with the loss of five wickets with two overs to spare. Man of the match Clarke took two wickets.
