Cricket: Celebrations at Llandudno awards night

THERE was celebration in the air when North Wales Premier Division champions Llandudno Cricket Club held their end of season presentation evening.

Steve Smith was named winner of the first XI Mark Hughes Batting Award, with Jonathan Gallagher taking the bowling award and Sam Rimmington was presented with the Graham Gibbons Player of the Year accolade.

Ajay Dhawan scooped the second XI Tony Neville Player of the Year award and also the Ron Beswich Bowling Award, while Luke Regan lifted the Alan Hughes Batting.

The third XI also handed out their top prizes for the season with Joe Lambe taking the batting award, Mark Bithell the bowling while Louis Jones was named player of the year.

Tom Bleasdale picked up the Llandudno Junior Player of the Year, with Luke Regan claiming the Joe Lambe Youth Player of the Year title.

Kev James was the Tom Barlow Club Fielder of the Year and Lewis Pike earned the John Breeze Most Improved Player of the Year award.

The prize for the match winning performance with the bat went to Duncan Midgley, while Jonathan Gallagher took the award for the ball.

It was been a successful season for Llandudno, with the seniors taking the North Wales League Premier Division championship for the fourth successive campaign, while the club’s Under-11s won the Eryri and North Wales titles.

MOCHDRE Cricket Club recently held their junior presentation night with the youngsters having yet another hugely successful season on the field.

The Under-15s won the Eryri League while the U13s were runners-up in their league.

The individual prizes were also presented with the batting awards being handed to Matthew Humphreys (U13s) and Mark Williams (U15s).

Reece Roberts (U13s) and Thomas Davies (U15s) took the bowling awards, while the fielding went to James French (U13s) and Andy Weldon (U15). The most improved player of the season prizes went to Ashley Seddon (U13s) and Alex Davies (U15s).

Mike Humphreys and Reece Roberts were also awarded trophies for taking hat-tricks and Mark Williams and Matthew Humphreys won awards for scoring hundreds. Matthew Humphreys has played for the Welsh U11 team this year and was also awarded the trophy for the best player across all age groups at the Eryri League presentation night.
