Cricket: Llandudno CC set for champion double

LLANDUDNO Cricket Club look set to celebrate a championship double for the second year running as they prepare for the final weekend in the North Wales Cricket League.

Llandudno 3rds are already Division Six champions in their first season after last weekend's league wash out, and the first team go into their final game at bottom-of-the-table St Asaph on Saturday with a 14 point lead at the top of the Premier Division.

In their current form, it would take a major upset to prevent them completing a hat-trick of titles and their fourth championship in five years.

Llandudno 3rds were confirmed as Division Six champions last weekend, when three points from their cancelled match against Menai Bridge 3rds saw them finish nine points clear of Halkyn 2nds, who were also washed out.

Skipper Joe Lambe said: "To win the league at our first attempt is an excellent result and it is a great start for the up and coming young players in the squad.

"I am happy with the performance of all who played in the team and we are looking forward to the challenge of playing in Division 5 next year."

Second-placed MOCHDRE are at home to LLANRWST on the final Saturday in a key game for both clubs.

Victory for Mochdre could give them the title should Llandudno slip up or are rained off at St Asaph, while Llanrwst are desperate for the points to stay clear of relegation.

They go into the game eight points ahead of Hawarden Park, who are away to Mold, and 16 ahead of St Asaph at the bottom of the table.
