LLANRWST gave their relegation fight a massive boost with a five-wicket victory at Mold last weekend which has lifted them out of the bottom two with two matches left in the North Wales Cricket League’s Premier Division.
They go into this Saturday's penultimate fixture at home to Brymbo five points ahead of the bottom two, Hawarden Park and St Asaph, who play each other in a key game, and travel to Mochdre for their final fixture next week.
They were rescued from a precarious 82 for 5 last weekend by an unbeaten sixth wicket stand of 69 between Alwyn Williams (54 not out) and Aled Hughes (19 not out) which steered them to victory at 151 for 5, after Mold had earlier collapsed from 126 for 4 to 149 all out in 44.2 overs.
Tarique Khan (12.2-1-27-4) did much of the damage with some excellent fast bowling, with good support from Lee Thomas (10-3-36-3) and Trefor Williams (7-1-26-2), who got rid of both the Mold opening batsmen.
John Williams top scored for Mold with 42, but the home side lost their last six wickets for just 23 runs withAlwyn Williams (9-2-32-1) the other Llanrwst wicket-taker.
