Cricket: Llanrwst skipper stays optimistic

LLANRWST skipper Tim Coleman remains optimistic his side can climb clear of the relegation places in the North Wales Cricket League’s Premier Division, despite being frustrated by the weather again last weekend.

They were 67 for three with key batsmen Tarique Khan and Trefor Williams at the crease, chasing a Connah’s Quay total of 198 for 9 declared, when rain brought a premature end to play at Gwydir Park.

"We got rained off at Bethesda the previous week when we felt we had chance of victory, and Saturday was more frustration – especially as Hawarden Park managed to complete their game and got 13 points to our six.

"But Hawarden have a similar run in to us and I believe if we can win two of our last five games then that could be enough."

Llanrwst travel to Menai Bridge this Saturday and then have what the skipper admits is a "must win" home game against bottom side St Asaph on bank holiday Monday.

In last Saturday’s game, Martin Burger top scored with 67, after being dropped off a difficult chance early on, and Darren Jones added 49 for Connah’s Quay.

Trefor Williams took 5 for 61 and Alwyn Williams 4 for 38 for Llanrwst, but their run chase was halted by the rain after 25 overs.
