Ysgol Bro Gwydir
CARING pupils from Ysgol Bro Gwydir in Llanrwst have become involved in helping the lives of other children in Third World countries.
The generous youngsters even roped in their family and friends to help knit hundreds of woolly hats for new born babies.
The whole school went knitting crazy in May after a member of the administration team, Alwen Williams, highlighted a Save the Children campaign advertised on television.
"Everyone has bits of spare wool lying around the house and it doesn’t take much to make a hat, you just follow the pattern," said Alwen.
"The response from everyone has been overwhelming, we only thought we would get about 50 hats. Some children were even knitting hats on their lunch breaks in the playground," added Alwen. "We will send the hats to Save the Children and they will hopefully reach babies in Tibet and India."
Headteacher Robert Williams said he was pleased with the nomination: "The children will be surprised and happy with the nomination. We produced over 800 hats by the end of the project.
"The children are very giving to charities and others in need and their parents too are always supportive of our fundraising."
The school’s next project will be supporting the work of SARDA search and rescue dogs.
