A POSTMAN who spends most of his spare time helping others has been nominated for a Your Champions award.

Dave Hanson, from West Shore, Llandudno, has been roped in by his bosses to tour the region to persuade other postal workers to follow in his footsteps by doing voluntary work.

He is a Llandudno town councillor and chairs the council’s planning committee. He is also a popular local DJ who regularly organises fundraising Motown discos for the Happy Faces children’s charity, but he is perhaps best known for his work for the Llandudno Multi-Disability Football Club.

He helped found the team, and is one of the coaches, travelling with it to matches throughout the UK and abroad.

"The team is having a phenomenal run at the moment, they’ve just won an international multi-disability tournament in Ireland, then the Welsh national championships in Aberystwyth when teams from the club played each other in the final," he said.

Dave recently won £1,000 from his bosses at Royal Mail for the charity of his choice, which he is giving to the club to help fund their fares to play in an international tournament in Switzerland and one day he hopes to raise enough cash to take them on a holiday to Disneyland.

"Many of them have never had a holiday abroad and I’d love to give them one," he said.
