Nominate a community hero for the Your Champions awards

FOR the thirteenth year in succession we want you to nominate local heroes for top awards.

The search begins this week for the unsung heroes and heroines of our community. Trinity Mirror North Wales has once again joined forces with ScottishPower to host Your Champions 2010, an exciting venture which lets us pay tribute to those who make a difference in our area.

Your Champions has been highlighting the good work of individuals and groups since 1997 and we want you to tell us who should get the red carpet treatment this year.

Our heroes and heroines will be honoured at a glittering presentation ceremony at the St George’s Hotel, Llandudno, on Friday, October 15.

Once again Trinity Mirror North Wales, which publishes the North Wales Weekly News, is delighted to be linking with ScottishPower, which is committed to supporting local communities.

At last year's awards Debbie Turnbull from Rhos-on-Sea won the Overall Champion Person award. Judges were moved by the phenomenal work Debbie has done since the death of her son Chris in 2006, aged just 15. Chris drowned while with friends near Capel Curig and since then Debbie has been determined to prevent further tragedies by educating young people, setting up websites and raising money for emergency services.

All of us know people in the community whose voluntary work goes unreported. People who are unsung carers, teams of people who are environmentally active, young people who are exceptional in sport, amazing schools – so many in our region who are going out and doing great work, and make a real difference.

We want to know about them – so this is where you can call the tune. We want you to nominate them and watch as winners emerge from a judging panel made up of knowledgeable local VIPs.

Area winners will go forward to a final judging session and all the successful category winners will receive their awards in October.

All you have to do to nominate an individual or group of people for Your Champions is complete our nomination form and send it to our office or e-mail roy.jones@scottishpower.com and make your nomination.
