Penmaenmawr residents complain about noise

Carole, Anne and Amanda in Penmaenmawr say that noise issues are changing the nature of the area

DOZENS of residents in Penmaenmawr claim their road has been turned into an industrial park due to noise and traffic problems.

Residents in Paradise Road told the Weekly News they have been woken at 5.30am due to noise issues created by traffic management company Amberon, which installs temporary traffic lights and has a depot in the town.

Carol Wesley, 50, said: “It’s looking like an industrial park. It is so inappropriate, unbelievable.

“We are woken up at 5.30am until 11pm because of the noise. We can’t relax in our own garden because we hear thuds and trucks coming and going.

“Big trucks are parked on the road so it’s dangerous and unsightly. It changes the nature of the area.

“Some properties don’t have any privacy and can’t use their bedrooms because they look out onto the site and we get headlights coming in our windows.”

Now a petition has been drawn up and noise recordings taken to try and measure the severity.

Residents have also approached Aberconwy MP Guto Bebb about the issues.

But Carol insists that she does not blame the company for the problems.

“To be fair, Amberon works hard and does long hours. It’s a 24-hour call out service but it’s just in the wrong place, they should move to an industrial park.”

Carol added that the site also faces a conservation area which includes a play park, and she believes a road accident could happen at any time.

The company set up its base on Paradise Road two years ago and complaints about noise issues with residents have been ongoing.

Terry Musson, general manager for Amberon, said: “I would dispute the noise levels, we’re not doing anything wrong.

“We’re not running and revving any engines, our vehicles are not creating any excessive noise and we’re trying to be quiet when we enter the premises.

“I sympathise with the residents but the premises has got the right usage. The issue needs to be taken up with the landlord, we’ve got nothing to hide.

“If there was something more suitable in Penmaenmawr then we would take it, but there isn’t.”

Nick Jones, planning and environmental enforcement manager for Conwy County Council, added: “We have received a complaint regarding noise from these premises and are currently investigating.”
