Pen’s youngest town councillor will be a voice for young

PENMAENMAWR’S new town councillor says he wants to be a voice for young people in the area.

Dylan Wyn Barlow, 23, was co-opted onto the town council recently after long-serving councillor Christine Duckworth retired to attend to personal matters.

Now the youngest serving councillor, who works for a retail store in the town, will serve the Pant-yr-Afon ward.

“I’d like to give something back to the community I’ve lived in for 23 years,” said Dylan.

“It’s a good thing there is a young person on the town council.

“The young people don’t have a voice in Penmaenmawr. I can relate to these people because I’m so young.

“There are a lot of issues in Penmaenmawr, like dealing with anti-social behaviour and the shops closing, that’s a very big concern for residents.

“I think we need to look at a scheme to get kids off the streets, like reopening the youth clubs and advertising that more.

“At the moment I’m just learning from the other town councillors.”

Dylan is a member of the Labour Party and campaigned for Clwyd West Labour candidate Ronnie Hughes in this year’s General Election.

At this week’s town council meeting, the young town councillor swore an oath to serve the community faithfully and to the best of his ability.
