A WORN OUT playing field could benefit from a £150,000 revamp.
The Y Glyn playing field in Dwygyfylchi has plans for major redevelopments. The new park hopes to include an all-weather football pitch to replace the existing grass pitch. New playing equipment and benches to ensure safety will also be provided.
Town councillor Dafydd Lloyd Borland said: “Green spaces are really important for community spirit. They are great for kids and for bringing families together,” he said.
The funding for the park will come from a number of bodies. Penmaenmawr Town Council will provide £2,500 towards the project while over £7,000 has been raised by private groups.
Now, the town council is applying for funds up to £150,000 for the park.
But members of the public have criticised the length of time it has taken to make improvements of their facility.
One said: “If only the Glyn Park was worth a visit. I’ve been monitoring the progress of the improvements to the park for the last five years, as yet nothing has happened. I’ve now given up all hope of visiting the park with my own children and I’m now banking on being able to take my grandchildren in a few decades time.
“Another summer holiday looms for us the residents and parents of Dwygyfylchi, with still no sign of a decent, hygienic, attractive and fun environment for our children to play in and enjoy.”
Cllr Borland responded that changes in the ownership of the project and the length of time it takes to apply for grants was the reason. Conwy council have drawn up three designs for the park which will go into a public consultation before a decision is made.
Parks and Fleet manager for Conwy council, Peter Barton-Price, said: “The Town Council is looking to improve the playground. Conwy’s Environment Service is assisting the Town Council with the project and helping to prepare a bid for funding.”
