Grant boost for Penmaenmawr's clean-up campaign

EFFORTS to maintain the clean streets of Penmaenmawr have been given a boost by a grant from Keep Wales Tidy.

PC Mike Smith’s bid to improve the surrounds of Penmaenmawr and Dwygyfylchi through his Adopt a Street scheme has been renewed following a cash injection by the environmental organisation.

The Keep Wales Tidy grant will be used to pay for necessary equipment and insurance which will enable community groups who have adopted streets in the area to carry out litter picks and make improvements to their streets’ appearance.

PC Smith said: "We are very grateful to Keep Wales Tidy for this funding which will enable the Adopt a Street programme to really move forward.

"Schools had expressed an interest in becoming involved but I didn’t want to get children involved until I could afford the insurance for the group. Now I can do this and involve community members of all ages, safe in the knowledge they are insured and are using brand new equipment and materials."

PC Smith and PCSO Nikki Adams’ efforts with the Adopt a Street campaign go hand in hand with their regeneration work at Penmaenmawr station and beach tunnel and improvement plans for the village’s play area and skate park.

New groups are encouraged to sign up to the growing Adopt a Street scheme by contacting Mike on Michael.Smith@nthwales.pnn.police.uk or by calling 07800 991219.
