Penmaenmawr children to perform on S4C

ANGELIC pupils at Ysgol Capelulo in Penmaenmawr are set for stardom after being selected as finalists in an S4C Christmas carol competition.

Fourteen children in years three to six were filmed at St Gwynan’s Church, Dwygyfylchi on November 25 for the show which is to be screened this Wednesday at 3pm on S4C’s Wedi Tri (After Three). Their song Cannwyll Crist (Christ’s Candle) was composed by teacher John Paul Jones for the competition. The choir is led by fellow teacher Sian Alderton.

John Paul Jones said: "A letter came through offering the chance to take part in this carol competition, and as we have a school choir we jumped at it. I found some music I had written some time ago and someone else put some words to it. We’re delighted to have come in the top ten.

"The children are very excited about going on television as it’s something they haven’t done before. It will be a massive experience for pupils and they, parents and staff are chuffed to bits that we have got this far in the competition. We are only a small school and this competition has put us on the map.

"The children have enjoyed success before at the Urdd Eisteddfod and performed at Light Up Pen. They are really getting out there into the community."
