Hundreds to enter Llandudno triathlon

FOUR hundred sportsmen and women are expected to tackle the second Llandudno Sea Triathlon on the resort’s North Shore on July 11.

Triathlon is the fastest growing Olympic sport in the UK and attracts swimmers, cyclists and runners.

This event consists of a 1,500m swim from the Craig-y-Don paddling pool to the dinghy jetty in front of the Imperial Hotel.

The triathletes then enter a transition area which will be on the promenade and cycle four laps of the Great Orme perimeter road returning at the end of the last lap.

Then runners race along the promenade, over the Little Orme to Rhos-on-Sea where they turn around near the golf club and head back over the Little Orme and finish on the promenade near the transition area.

Last year’s event was awarded third in the 220 Triathlon Race of the Year Trophy which is a superb result for a first event.

Organisers are appealing to local charities or fund raising groups to volunteer to help out. In return, they will make a financial donation, supply food and drink, a race t-shirt and an enjoyable day out at one of the most exciting sporting events in the region.
