Famous Llandudno disk jockey passes away

A FATHER and a well known disk jockey has passed away following a heart attack.

Ed Nuttall, also known as Big E to his friends, has died at the age of 62. He was a well known face at the legendary Payne’s Cafe on Mostyn Street in Llandudno, where he used to DJ Motown and soul in the 1960s and 70s.

Eldest son Geoffrey said: “He was a hard worker, a very fit guy. He was very caring, he always had time for everybody. He has five kids, he’s always been there for us. I’ve been honoured to be his son.”

Friend and fellow DJ David Hanson said: “He was a loveable rogue. You would never have thought he was 60. He looked so young, he was young at heart.

“He was a DJ in the 60s and 70s. He took me under his wing for a few years. I was like an apprentice. It was a hell of a shock when he died. I couldn’t believe it.”

Community radio station Tudno FM has dedicated a radio show to Ed which will be broadcast on Wednesday, June 9.

Ed was also an ardent supporter of Bury FC and Rhyl FC and both teams have left words for the DJ.

Later in life, Ed worked as a curtain and blinds fitter as a well as a children’s entertainer.

Following a heart attack, Ed passed away in the Countess of Chester Hospital. He has left five children and two grandchildren.
