Yacht in Mayday alert off Colwyn Bay

A YACHT whose steering gear failed sent out a Mayday call yesterday.

Llandudno RNLI all-weather lifeboat was launched at 12.35pm yesterday to go to its assistance in Conwy Bay.

The 30-foot 'Anliska', believed to have three people on board, had made the Mayday call to Holyhead coastguard.

An RNLI spokesman said: “When the lifeboat arrived on scene, however the RNLI crew found that the 'Anliska' had managed to limp into the River Conwy assisted by another local leisure craft.”

The lifeboat returned to station at 2pm.

The RNLI Beaumaris lifeboat was called out to go to the aid of another leisure craft off Llanfairfechan which had also broken down.
