Award for Llandudno sailing club stalwart who doesn't sail

A WOMAN who doesn’t sail has won one of the top awards in yachting!

Ruth Brown from Penrhyn Bay was presented with the prestigious Royal Yachting Association’s (RYA) community lifetime award by president Princess Anne last week at a lunch in London last week.

She has been secretary of Llandudno Sailing Club for the past 11 years and was nominated by the commodore Paul Moreton for her work in achieving grants toward training boats, equipment and the training of youngsters.

The citation said Ruth also ensures every member and new applicant is made to feel important.

“It might seem strange that someone who doesn’t sail should get an RYA award but it’s probably because I’m a non-sailing member that I’ve had more time to give to the secretary’s job and organising things on shore,” she said.
