A FORMER community centre can be demolished and replaced by flats and houses even though neighbours say it will lead to traffic congestion in the area.
People living near the former Craig-y-Don Community Centre in Morley Road say the proposal for seven flats and four townhouses is over-development of the site.
"This application is causing a lot of concern in the community," said Cllr Janet Finch Saunders. "While people accept the site will go for residential development, they feel this is over-development. It is the apartment block that is causing particular concern.
"There is no other development like this in the vicinity and it could set an unwelcome precedent. There are already numerous problems with parking and congestion in Morley Road which is a very narrow road and this will add to them. We feel this is overkill on this site. We have too many apartments in Llandudno as it is. What we need is houses, and people have no objection to the townhouses."
But at its meeting last Wednesday, the council’s planning committee voted in favour of the scheme from Ravenscroft Homes NW.
