Llanrwst triathlon raises cash for Ty Gobaith hospice

HUNDREDS of intrepid runners took part in a fun charity triathlon event at the weekend to help raise money for a local children's hospice.

The Llanrwst triathlon is an annual event held in aid of Ty Gobaith children's hospice, Tal-y-Cafn. The mammoth endurance race took place on Sunday, beginning at Llanrwst swimming pool with a 400 metre swim followed by a 15-mile cycle up the Conwy Valley to Tal-y-Cafn and ended in a three mile run.

Carneddau Triathlon club member Simon Roxburgh, 34, from Rhos on Sea, said the event was a great success and was bigger than ever. His wife Rhian won the triathlon coming in at 1hr 6mins, also winning fastest local person and female.

Paul Williams was the fastest male competitor and the fastest super veterans were Keith Butterworth (1hr 19mins) and Valerie Anne Edwards (1hr 29mins).

Carneddau Tri Club have raised over £8,000 over the last two years taking part in the race.
