Doctor from Conwy voted best GP in Wales

A DOCTOR from Conwy has been voted GP of the Year in Wales.

The Royal College of General Practioners Wales has awarded the GP of the Year patient nomination award 2010 to

Dr Raj Britto of Llys Meddyg in Conwy.

The winning nomination was from one of his patients, Muriel Wait, who said: “I am delighted that Dr Britto has won the GP of the Year Award as I cannot thank him enough for the care he has shown to me and my whole family.

“He is dedicated, thorough and caring.

“I feel that we are not just names or numbers to him, but people who need his help and he does just that – he even has the tissues!

“When I decided to bring my sister home from hospital Dr Britto came round and made sure I had everything she needed, but above all reassured us we were not on our own and that he was only a telephone call away.

“He came to see her nearly every day or he rang me.

“Even on New Year’s Eve he rang me six times about her dressings and her medication and to ask if I had all that I needed.

“My family and I could not have coped without the help of Dr Britto and the nurse that he arranged for us.

“He saw us through every day of the last six months of my sister’s life.”

She added: “We can face each day knowing that we have the support of a great man who we cannot thank enough.

“I thank God that Dr Britto is here and hope he stays with our surgery!”

Dr Britto collected his accolade at a gala awards evening at the Museum of Wales, Cardiff on Friday, December 10, attended by Paul Williams OBE, director general health and social services and chief executive of the NHS.

The awards are dedicated to celebrating the best of general practice.
