Children’s play centre opens in Old Colwyn

A BRAND new children’s play centre has given new life to Old Colwyn.

Totally Ape opened this month after over £100,000 was invested in new play equipment featuring rock climbing frames, rope swings and a toddler soft play area.

The indoor play centre has been refurbished with brand new equipment catering for children aged up to 12 years.

Under new ownership, the business replaces the similar Jumping Jungle project which closed two years ago.

Complete with a cafe for mums and dads, the centre, which has a designated toddler area, is being welcomed by parents as it is free for babies up to 12 months old.

Gill White, who runs the business, says the response has been overwhelming.

“People are saying the play area is absolutely fantastic,” she said.

“It is much needed in the area as an all weather venue.

“The equipment can be used by anyone aged from nought to 12 years, but it will take adults as well.

“The children walk in and go ‘wow’. It is amazing. We’ve had a wonderful reception from local people and the traders have made us very welcome.

“We will be having themed parties and we will be doing toddler mornings, there is a separate toddler area away from the main frame, which is for three- to 12-year-olds and can accommodate 120 children at any one time.”

Cllr Cheryl Carlisle praised the new business which has created two full-time and 10 part-time jobs in the village.

“I’m absolutely delighted there is a local, safe facility for the children,” she said.

“It is also local jobs for the people of Old Colwyn.”

The site has free parking, free Wi-Fi and is open Monday to Saturday between 10am-6pm and Sundays 12pm-4pm.
