CONWY County Council is to pursue a compulsory purchase order to acquire the Market Hall building on Princes Drive.
The decision follows a vote by councillors at a cabinet meeting at Bodlondeb and supports Masterplan concept drawings of a newly created town square.
The council already owns the adjoining former KFC building and hopes to use regeneration funds to demolish the site as part of a new mixed-use building.
The revamped building will then attempt to entice a national chain, or even be used as a new council base in the town centre.
The plans are all part of the Bay Life Initiative to revitalise Colwyn Bay under a grander vision accessing strategic regeneration Assembly funds.
Rob Dix is the regeneration programme manager and said buying the site was important for the regeneration of the town centre.
“We’re determined to achieve our aim to make Colwyn Bay a modern, vibrant centre for commerce, tourism, employment and leisure,” he said.
