Puppy
SEVEN pedigree puppies have been stolen from a farm in Dolwen in a distraction heist.
The Roberts family believe the thieves tricked them into leaving their home before swooping in and taking the pups last Thursday.
Seven of the eight-week-old border collies, collectively worth £1,000, were taken from a litter of nine dogs stolen from Tynddol Farm.
The puppies had the freedom of the yard but were taken after a caller, claiming to be from Warrington, phoned with an interest in homing two of the pups.
The caller said they were not familiar with the area and asked if farmer Trefor Roberts could meet just off the A55 to show them the way.
The caller didn’t turn up and when Trefor returned home seven of the dogs were missing.
The family believe the thieves failed to catch the remaining two dogs as well as two-year-old mum, Fudge and nine-year-old dad, Cwt.
Trefor, 42, who had his car stolen in Rhos-on-Sea in March, is furious with the thieves.
"It is dreadful, absolutely dreadful when you think I lost my Land Rover six months ago," he said.
"And to have this happen to the puppies as well is horrendous. I was 10 miles away when it happened.
"She was meant to phone me when she got off the A55, but obviously she had my postcode, put it in the sat nav and went straight to the farm and low and behold when I got back the puppies had gone missing. I’m very annoyed."
Trefor’s dad, John David Roberts, is equally as upset.
"I’m very upset and angry about it. I think it was a question of an opportunistic crime. If so many hadn’t gone missing in one go we would have thought they had just got loose," said John.
"I hope the puppies are ok because it is beyond belief what could happen to them. Have they been taken and sold for a purpose?
"We are extremely worried about the puppies, the people who’ve done this are despicable. It is an intrusion and a completely callous thing to do.
"It was a criminal act. They were on private property. It has cost me quite a lot of money."
A spokeswoman for North Wales Police said: "We did have a report that seven puppies were stolen from a farm in the Abergele area. An investigation is on-going and anyone with any enquiries is asked to contact North Wales Police."
