FORMER Glamorgan and England cricketer Matthew Maynard has agreed to become a patron of Colwyn Bay Football Club.
Matthew accepted the position during a presentation evening which followed Colwyn Bay FC’s annual golf day held at Rhuddlan Golf Club.
Matthew paid tribute to the Seagulls pledging support to Ty Gobaith children’s hospice by featuring the charity’s logo on their home and away shirts.
“I’m delighted to be offering my support and will attend matches as often as I can,” he said. “I also think it’s terrific that Colwyn Bay Football Club have sacrificed revenue from shirt sponsorship in order to support T Gobaith.
“It shows so much about the calibre of the people at Colwyn Bay FC and they deserve to succeed and be well-supported.”
New top cop plea
A PRESSURE group has called for the next chief constable of North Wales to be appointed from an outside force when Richard Brunstrom retires next year.
People for Proper Policing in North Wales says Mr Brunstrom’s force has become a laughing stock.
More of the same style of management would be a disaster, Ian Glass claimed at the group’s Llandudno meeting.
The organisation - critical of Mr Brunstrom’s hard line against speeding - says people do not believe police claims that crime is going down in North Wales.
