Companies build new playhouse for Abergele children

BIG-HEARTED builders have come to the rescue after primary school youngsters had their playhouse destroyed by vandals.

There was a special late Christmas present for the pupils of Ysgol Glan Morfa, Abergele, when a brand new playhouse appeared at the school. It was the work of award-winning Rhyl-based homebuilder Anwyl Construction who were touched by the children’s loss.

Director Matt Anwyl said: “We saw in the paper how upset the children were to have lost their playhouse when it was burned down by vandals.

“So we gave the school a call and said we would build a new one for them. One of our main suppliers, Roger W Jones of Rhyl, provided the timber and Geraint Hughes built it in our joinery workshop and we delivered it for them.”

Headteacher Hugh Rhys-Williams said: “We’re very grateful to Anwyl Construction and delighted to have a playhouse back – and a bigger and better one. It’s an executive playhouse now.

“The children were devastated when the original was burned down. They loved playing in it and we were all very upset and angry.

“It happened on bonfire night and it destroyed all the toys they had inside and left scorch marks on the floor of the playground.

“It damaged the fencing around the playground as well and meant it had to be cordoned off for a while – it was pointless and mindless vandalism.”

Nigel Roberts, director of builders’ merchants Roger W Jones, said: “We like to be able to put something back into the community and were certainly impressed with it when we saw it in the workshop but it’s even better to see it at the school.”

Matt added: “It’s lovely to see the children scrambling about in the new building and I’m sure they will get many happy hours playing in it.”
