Colwyn and Llandudno good neighbours get Christmas hampers

GOOD neighbours were recognised by gifts of Christmas hampers after being nominated for what they do to help others.

North Wales Housing Association tenants were asked to suggest people who they felt were deserving of the treats.

Among the people who received the hampers were Geena Williams of Colwyn Bay and Val Conway from Llandudno.

Pensioner Brenda Wilson, who lives in the same block of flats as Geena in Abergele Road, said she was always helping others.

“She put out the recycling and rubbish bins for all nine flats and brings them back in every week no matter how bad the weather is, and her son Joshua is always ready to help people too.

“Geena is a fantastic mum and she and Joshua really deserve a treat,” she explained.

And single mum Geena, who works at Rydal School, said she and Ysgol y Creuddyn pupil Joshua were suprised but pleased when they received the hamper delivered by housing association staff dressed as Santa and his elves.

“It was so funny when I opened the door to see them there, I hadn’t expected anything like that at all but it was lovely to be nominated by Brenda,” she explained.

Grandmother Val Conway, who lives at Cae Clyd in Craig-y-Don, was nominated by several of her neighbours who say she is always helping others by running errands and baking cakes for special occasions despite having suffered great sadness in her own life.

Val’s daughter Susie, who suffered from Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus, passed away several years ago and last year her husband Jim died just before Christmas.

“But Val always puts others first. She is a wonderful lady and is always ready to help anyone who needs it.

“Even though she has had great sadness in her life she puts on a brave face for others,” said a neighbour who asked not to be named.

Val said she was surprised to receive the hamper of Christmas goodies.

“I can’t thank the neighbours who nominated me enough. It was lovely of them to think of me,” she commented.
