RUMOURS that a historic church is about to close are incorrect, says the vicar.
St Paul’s in Craig-y-Don was built between 1893-95 as a memorial to Prince Albert Victor, Duke of Clarence, and stands on a prominent site on Mostyn Avenue.
It is one of the churches in the Parish of Llanrhos, and the vicar, Prebendary Bob Griffiths, says it still plays a full role in community life and there are no plans to close it.
“We can get quite downhearted and depressed when we hear these things and lose sight of what is actually happening. On any one Sunday we have between 200 and 300 people worshipping in the churches in the parish,” he said.
And he said St Paul’s is in structural good order and part of a maintenance programme which ensures it is fit for purpose, while the parish as a whole has no debts.
