Objections to LDP
CONWY County Council has stated its objections to Denbighshire’s Local Development Plan.
Concerns have been raised over proposals for around 2,000 houses in Bodelwyddan, near the border between the two authorities.
Although generally over wording, the objections all appertain to members’ concerns over the location of the strategic development site, its impact on the Welsh language and culture and its impact on services and infrastructure in Conwy.
David Jones, MP for Clwyd West, has claimed approval will have a major impact on Conwy and the authority’s own LDP. He said: “It will effectively mean that up to 2,000 new homes will be built in Bodelwyddan, putting additional strain on the infrastructure of Abergele, especially education.
“Traditionally children from Bodelwyddan have attended secondary school at Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan.”
Abergele already has approximately 900 new homes planned under Conwy Council’s Local Development Plan. Infrastructure such as sewer systems and roads could also be put under huge strain. Objectors say the plan will turn the county into an urban sprawl for retiring immigrants, or those travelling to work in the North West of England.
Hub plans on hold
PLANS to convert a football changing facility into an outdoor activity hub in Betws-y-Coed have been deferred by Snowdonia National Park Authority until the next committee meeting.
An SNPA spokesman said: “Further information needs to be provided on the car parking and to comply with the standard of the football changing rooms.”
The matter will be considered at the next committee meeting on November 9.
