CraigyDon park volunteers get top award

A VOLUNTARY group has received an award for its work to improve a community park.

The Friends of Queen’s Park in Craig-y-Don was honoured by the Royal Horticultural Society for its work in cleaning up and improving the green space.

In the past two years members have planted new trees, shrubs and hedging, created a central raised flowerbed as a focal point and installed a children’s play area with £40,000 of equipment.

“We are very proud to get this award which reflects all the hard work put in by the Friends in making the park a pleasant place to visit,” said Cllr Christine Jones.

Future plans include a sensory garden for the blind, a biodiversity area and refurbishment of the pillars at the entrances.
