DANGEROUS drivers and anti-social behaviour which have blighted a Conwy Valley village could soon be a thing of the past thanks to a number of speeding deterrents being installed.
Residents on Station Road in Betws-y-Coed have been the drivers behind a campaign to stop the road and car park becoming a race track for local yobs tearing around late at night in their cars.
Despite a number of cars being seized in a crackdown by police in January last year the anti-social behaviour continued, much to the annoyance of residents.
Following a number of meetings between residents, North Wales Police, Snowdonia National Park Authority (SNPA), Conwy County Council, and Betws-y-Coed Community Council, a number of speed humps have been installed along Station Road. These are hoped to deter any more speeding cars.
Cllr Liz Roberts said: “SNPA has listened to people’s concerns. This anti-social behaviour has been disturbing people’s lives and their well-being.
“The area is also being regularly monitored by the police and supported by the vigilant eye of residents.”
Peter Trumper of SNPA added: “We hope the speed humps will help slow down traffic and improve the situation for those who live and work on Station Road.”
