HUNDREDS of protesters have opposed plans to build dozens of homes in Dwygyfylchi.
On Sunday more than 100 protesters met in the parish hall to oppose Conwy Council’s draft LDP and sign a petition.
Up to 125 houses have been proposed which include 20 off Vardre and 15 off Ysguborwen Road. And dozens of houses have been proposed for sites including Trefforis, Old Mill and Conwy Old Road, whilst the Groesffordd site has also been targeted.
Elsewhere, a further 60 homes have been proposed in Cwm Road, Penmaenmawr.
Organiser Anne McCaffrey said: “There is no transparency within these proposals and no consultation with the community. It took my husband and I weeks of intensive reading, a meeting with Conwy planners and discussions with the Welsh Assembly and Planning Inspectorate to fully understand what was being proposed and establish how to object. We are shocked at how difficult it’s been.
“Conwy Council’s rationale for 7,900 new houses being required as ‘local houses for local needs’ is statistically flawed and only based on guesswork.
“Where are they going to come from? And why should we allow our green spaces to be destroyed to build housing estates all over the county to accommodate them? We don’t have enough jobs for the people who live here now never mind for a further 5,000.
“The figure of 5,000 is a target being imposed by WAG and bears no relation to real needs.”
Over 100 attended a protest meeting in Penmaenmawr on Tuesday to oppose the plans.
