Llanrwst hotel launches friendship club

A LLANRWST hotel is hoping a new friendship club being launched next month will help bring people from rural locations together throughout the new year.

“The festive season can be a lonely time if you have lost a loved one or are on your own,” said Maenan Abbey owner David Hughes.

“I lost my own dad in May 2009 and my mum is only 59, I just thought wouldn’t it be nice to have a weekly friendship club or informal meeting where she could attend to meet other people in similar situations and just have a good chat and get-together.”

The friendship club which is due to launch on Monday, January 10 will be a weekly event held at the Maenan Abbey Hotel, near Llanrwst.

David added: “The club will be open to everyone, male, female, single, attached, friends can come together to meet new people, everyone is welcome.

“It will be a friendly informal lunch meeting, held at 12pm every Monday. So people can have the opportunity, if they wish, to socialise during lunch and meet new friends and have a nice meal out.”

David and his staff are even laying on free transport from Watling Street, Llanrwst to the friendship club.

“A free mini bus service is being put on in order to help anyone who needs transport from Llanrwst to the club, which will pick up on Monday’s at Watling Street at 11.30am and anyone travelling to us from Llandudno, Deganwy, Junction and Glan Conwy can get the X1 service,” said David.

The friendship club lunch will be held in the hotel’s newly refurbished dining room which boasts a self-playing piano.

“Anyone interested should just come along and give it a go, they have nothing to lose and maybe some nice friendships to gain.”
