Big freeze causes drivers misery in Conwy

THE lethal driving conditions have meant a miserable time for drivers, with many suffering from accidents.

Llandudno Junction based North Wales Recovery, which has 20 recovery vehicles, has been inundated with calls since Friday.

Jodie Williams, controller of the recovery team, commented: “We’ve got 20 recovery vehicles working non-stop. There have been many, many crashes and lots of cars are simply stuck on ice and have to be dragged out.”

The owner of a car bodywork repair service has also received many calls from distressed drivers involved in collisions.

“There have been a lot of smashes over the past few days, a lot have occurred on the B roads where they haven’t been gritted.

“I’ve been getting many enquiries because I am a mobile service. The continuing bad weather means a lot of people are too scared to drive to a car body shop, especially after they’ve had a crash, but it’s no problem for me as I just go to their homes to get the dents or scratches out.

“I can also make their car roadworthy until they can get to a body shop.”

Ian Hughes, of the Motor Body Repair Centre in Mochdre, said they were busy too.

He said: “We’ve been out doing a fair few estimates. We wouldn’t be able to take anything on now and complete it before Christmas.”
