Girls get knitting to help African pupils

SCHOOLGIRLS enjoyed a knitting class with visiting police and community support officers.

The idea was to make the youngsters feel good about themselves by teaching the police officers a skill.

The project took place at Ysgol John Bright in Llandudno with PCSOs Pamela Hayes and Sarah Curry.

The scheme was run by the British Council Wales in Cardiff which is also trying to help pupils in a Connecting Classrooms project.

A cluster of Welsh schools joined forces with North Wales Police and the Blackburn Rovers Community Trust to enhance international links with schools in South Africa and Malawi.

The girls asked the officers to help them make traditional textile gifts to send abroad.

Connecting Classrooms coordinator Rebecca Gavin said: “This will support our ongoing collaborative project that aims to work with our Malawi schools to empower female students in achieving academic success.”
