Crest manager given green award

A RECYCLING champion has been named a green hero in a national contest.

Rod Williams, business development manager at Llandudno Junction’s Crest Cooperative, was praised for his work at a Sustain Wales awards ceremony in Llangollen last week.

Rod, who has worked for Crest for more than four years, was recognised as one of 52 Green Heroes on the Wales Green List.

He’s been the driving force behind an award winning Conwy recycling partnership. In cooperation with housing association Cartrefi Conwy, and owing to Rod’s efforts, 4,000 kitchens and bathrooms have been salvaged which would otherwise be destined for landfill.

Rod’s determination to make the partnership a success has led to the scheme soaring ten years ahead of Welsh Assembly targets. Rod has created work opportunities for 200 people, including the long-term unemployed, people on community payback, volunteers and adults with learning disabilities.

He said: “I’m humbled and proud to have been nominated for the award.”
