Former Post Office owner Jason Weyman to stand in next May’s Aberconwy Welsh Assembly Election

THE former owner of Deganwy Post Office is to stand as an independent councillor in next May’s Aberconwy Welsh Assembly elections.

Jason Weyman, who is in his 40s, is currently a county councillor on Conwy County Council representing the ward of Deganwy.

Jason, who is married and has two children, said: “The ability of the local authority to operate successfully is heavily dependent on the Welsh Assembly to make effective financial and policy decisions.

“Many of these decisions do not currently consider the needs of the residents and business of Conwy.

“I feel the Assembly concentrates on other areas of Wales, resulting in North Wales, and particularly Conwy, getting ignored.”

He added: “I believe an Independent voice in the Assembly would help represent the views and concerns of the residents and businesses of Conwy.

“I have for these reasons decided to stand as candidate for the Aberconwy seat at the elections to be held in May 2011.”

Jason describes why he thinks he’s up to the job. He said: “I have the enthusiasm and skills to represent the people of Aberconwy within the Assembly.

“I have 12 years experience in the telecommunications industry, five years experience of owning and managing a successful local small retail business and two and a half years as a councillor.

“This has given me a variety of experiences and skills that will, if elected, make me a very effective and hardworking Assembly Minister.”

Plaid Cymru have also selected their candidate to stand for the seat.

Iwan Huws is the former Chief Executive of Snowdonia National Park.

He said: “I’m delighted to have been selected by Plaid Cymru to defend the seat of Aberconwy and I’m looking forward to hitting the campaign trail across the constituency in the remaining five months before the election.Š

“Gareth Jones has been a tremendous Assembly Member for the area.Š

“He will be a very hard act to follow but I will strive to serve the people of Aberconwy to his very high standards if elected.

“Having worked in communities across the constituency for many years, I believe that I’m somebody who truly understands the priorities and needs of the local communities I seek to represent.”

“Aberconwy, and Wales as a whole has got some challenging times ahead, my focus over the these times will be ensure that our local health services are maintained and improved and that more high-quality jobs are created across our communities. ”

Other candidates who will stand in next May’s election are Janet Finch-Saunders (Cons), Ronnie Hughes (Lab), Mike Priestley (Lib Dem).
