Urban and city landscapes in new exhibition

WELSH artist Danny Markey is to hold his first ever solo show in Wales showcasing some of his finest artwork.

Danny has work in public collections including the British Museum, and has received many awards for his paintings including the Sunday Times Royal Watercolour Society Award 2009.

An exhibition of his latest work is for sale and can be viewed from September 26 until October 24 at Ffyn-y-Parc Country House and Gallery, Betws Road, Llanrwst.

“Danny describes his painting and his choice of subject matter as ‘impulsive’,” explained Ffin-y-Parc’s Ralph Sanders.

“He endeavours to observe and record the ordinary. His recent work has focussed largely on urban landscapes, such as cityscapes by night, and his loose, confident and spontaneous brushstrokes seem to capture in a silent moment the steady flow of human life passing through a city or town.

“He cites many influences, including Matisse, Hokusai, Rembrandt, Rothko, Assyrian reliefs and Piero della Francesca, as well as films, books and music.”
