Llandudno Smokery scores big with Tesco

THE success story of Llandudno Smokery continues with the announcement it will be supplying Tesco stores in Wales with two of its award winning products.

Following its recent successes at the 2010 UK Great Taste Awards, Llandudno Smokery will supply 46 stores across Wales with its best-selling smoked trout alongside its famous smoked mackerel, which won a two-star gold at the Great Taste Awards and is also sold in London’s Selfridges.

“We are really proud Tesco has chosen to stock our products across such a large number of stores,” said Jody Scrutton, business manager at the smokery based in Builder Street.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for the business to gain nationwide recognition for the great products we produce from our kilns in Llandudno.

“I encourage everyone who shops at Tesco to support local producers and try our excellent mackerel or trout.

“This is also an exclusive for Tesco, as it’s the only supermarket offering a genuine Welsh smoked trout, sourced from a farm in Bodfari and smoked in Llandudno.”

Jody added: “I hope that by doing business with Tesco we can build on the strong reputation we have so we are identified by food lovers across the whole country.”

If Jody’s smoked mackerel and trout sells well in Wales, it’s understood the smokery could be selling them in Tesco stores across the UK. Jody admits if this does happen the smokery will have to expand, and more jobs will be created.

He said: “When I started all this I knew I wanted to do something with food, but I didn’t want to do chef hours. Now I’m doing more hours than a chef!”
