A NORTH Wales Police DCI has put his pedal to the metal this week by cycling in aid of a Conwy children’s hospice and Help for Heroes charity.
Llanrwst Sprint Triathlon past-championship, DCI John Clayton who also held the post of race organiser a couple of years ago, missed this year’s Triathlon race, held in the market town last Sunday, as he is currently cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats, in aid of T Gobaith Children’s Hospice and Help the Heroes charity.
John spoke recently of his reasons to take on such a gruelling bike ride in short a short space of time.
“The inspirational and fantastic strength of character shown by our troops injured in battle in recent deserves our support as do the kids in T Gobaith and Alder Hey,” said John.
“Myself, Mark Pierce, Phil Aldred and Mark will cycle supported by Phil in a Scarff van and John Taylor on a motorbike. The distance by road is 870plus and we set off on Thursday, September 2.
“We plan to take eight to nine days, cycling about 100 miles each day, to raise money for Help the Heroes and T Gobaith Children’s Hospice, based in Conwy and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.
“With readers’ donations the effort will not feel as much of a trudge, we will monitor the donations site to see how it builds. Loads of people have already given and pledged outside of the donation sites so three great big cheers to them.
“Everybody who has donated already or does donate will have their name thrown into a hat and will receive a special prize for two which involves Bodysgallen Hall so watch this space,” added John.
