Victoria centre car park wins top safety award

A CAR park which hasn’t had any thefts from vehicles in the 18 years since it opened has received a top safety award.

The Victoria Centre in Llandudno has been awarded the Park Mark award for the quality of its multi-storey car park.

Introduced to promote excellence in the management and security of public car parks across the UK, Park Mark is awarded by the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) and managed by the British Parking Association, with support from the Home Office.

It is awarded to operators who can clearly demonstrate pro-active measures aimed at preventing and reducing crime in their facilities.

“We’re really pleased to get the award because it acknowledges the professional approach we adopt to managing our car parks, and our impressive record over 18 years,” said centre manager Sue Nash.

“The accreditation is an independent assessment of the centre’s car park management strategy and recognises our commitment to public safety and excellence.”

The centre’s car park had to go through a rigorous risk assessment and inspection to attain accreditation to the Park Mark standard, including submission of the policies and procedures in place to deter and prevent criminal activity and anti-social behaviour.

A state-of-the art entry system, comprehensive CCTV network and regular security patrols have also helped the centre to retain its perfect record.

Unexplained death

DETECTIVES have launched a probe into the death of an elderly woman in Llandudno.

Police were called to a flat in Morley Road, Craig-y-Don, at 8.40am last Wednesday, where the body of a woman, who has not been named, was found.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Williams said the cause of death was not immediately apparent and was treated as unexplained. A full forensic investigation was launched at the flat and parts of the street were cordoned off.

But after a post mortem the following day DCI Williams revealed the woman’s death is not being treated as suspicious. The coroner has been informed.
